Why is it called Golden Horde?
The name Golden Horde originates from a Mongolian-led army of mostly Turkic tribes that swept over eastern Europe in the 13th century. It is possibly named after a golden tent used by their commander, and this horde established a westernmost Mongol khanate that ruled most of European Russia until its defeat in the 15th century.
